External Defibrillator (AED)

In areas where there is an operational First Responder unit or LIVES medic, LIVES have managed to increase the chance of survival from Cardiac Arrest from the national average of below 5% to a massive 29% in 2005

The automatic external defibrillator give voice prompts (LINK RECORD DEFID) to instruct the trained operator in correct use.             It delivers a controlled DC electric shock to a victim in cardiac arrest.

Rhythms that require a shock are:

The purpose of early defibrillation is to re-establish a normal heart rhythm. Scientific research has shown that early defibrillation greatly increase the chance of survival for someone in cardiac arrest.
